One distinguished Indian pilot l know of is 2nd Leutenant Indra La Roy. He was a fighter pilot who fought for the British air forces in WWI. He was credited with 10 kills before he was shot down in combat. He was awarded the distinguished flying cross posthumously. He is to date the only Indian ace.
There r also other notable fighter pilots in later conflicts like Ajjamada Boppaya Devayya, a squadron leader who shot down a Pakistani F-104 while flying a Dassault Mystere in the Indo-Pakistani war in 1965. He was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India is second highest award for gallantry. It is unlikely that a poorly trained pilot would have been flying an advanced fighter like the F-104 & the Mystere was similiar to the F-86 Sabre, a fairly outdated plane at the time, which makes this a very notable victory.
l do not know about any current pilots or who might be notable in civil aviation, but these guys were certainly among the best pilots of their time.
