What is the plane that only makes a popping or clicking noise when it flys over? Today there was one that flew over about 500 ft if that. There was NO sound of a prop or a jet engine. What was it?

There r no airplanes that make the kind of sound u describe. Gliders fly with only an occasional whooshing or whistling sound.

Most likely u r seeing a glider or gliders. The ''popping or clicking'' sound is coming from some other source.

If u r seeing gliders that low, then u r near the airport from which they r flying. Are u aware of an airport nearby? Go there on a sunny Saturday afternoon & u will see the rest of the process.

Ram Jet or Scramjet perhaps, but those only work at really high speeds.

Are you close to the end of a runway? It could have been the engine backfiring at idle.

It was probably a glider. They dont have any engines, they use draft and windspeeds to stay airborn but function just as a normal plane. If you have a pic send it along!
