I am a relatively low time pilot currently working on my CFl and I am interested in working humanitarian or relief operations in less then desirable or compromised environments.
I am sure their are some organizations and agencies out there who are hurting for pilots to fly their aircraft for relief operations in third world countries. l would be willing to take on a task like this given that they provide food and shelter. Pay does not matter. It is not like l have bills or a family to support.
It is just a line of work that seems appealing to me right now. I am 26 years old and an Army veteran who has a year and a half experience in a combat zone. The grind of pursuing a regional airline job especially at this stage in the economy just does not seem appealing right now and if any opportunities are present where l can use my licenses to see the world and help some people at the same time then l would jump on that immediately.

Do you mean flying from here to overseas? If so, you will probably need a lot of experience. l would still pursue a regional job, or perhaps cargo, if that is what you want to do. If you are talking about becoming a missionary pilot, you need to become a mechanic and build some good time in unusual airports. Try to get as much flying off of grass or dirt strips, and look into mechanic schools like Moody's.
Hope that helps you.

New Tribes Missions in Sanford, FL may be just what you're looking for.

A good place to start might be humanitarian organizations like the PEace Corp or even Greenpeace. Just start checking them out on the net. There are hundreds of organizations out there that need help. Start contacting random groups and see what you dig up. Good luck to you. That sounds like a really satisfying pursuit.

Look up a company called AeroServe International. They fly medical supplies, doctors, and relief workers to some of the worst places in Africa.
Many of my good friends worked there, though l myself did not. They gained a lot of experience and have some amazing stories to tell about their time.
One caveat though, they do ask that you speak either French or Portuguese.
