pilots are not that highly paid their wage is average but if you wanna be a pilot fly an actual plane flight simulators can help but you will only be good if you do the real thing every once in a while.

You can begin training for ur private pilots license now. That way by the time ur 18 u can begin ur commercial training. Flight simulator is a good program for having an idea how to fly a plane & is pretty accurate, just do not expect it to get u 100% Through training ;-)

Corporate pilots make pretty good money, but my dad flies commercial for Continental & is making six figures. He started as a pilot for Fed-Ex in his twenties to build hours.

Good luck dude.

Also, if u fly international then u can easily make upwards of 250,000 a year once u hit ur forties. Just do not expect to have a strong family if u do that.

BTW, do not listen to the people just talking out of their *** above.

The main thing u need to give ur attention to right now is just doing a good job of the tasks that r on ur plate today. You will be old enough to consider the technical details of ur training & career development sooner than u think.

Right now, concentrate on being a person of good character & achievement. Stay out of trouble: no drugs, no alcohol, no trouble with the law like stealing or assault. A reputation as a person of good character & social skills will work in ur favor.

Take the courses u want to take, & talk it over with ur school guidance counselor & ur family. Make sure u do well in mathematics & sciences, & also spend some time on civics & government, & also on geography. A professional pilot has to have a really good understanding of law & regulations, & has to know where things r around the planet.

At the same time, do well in some physical pursuit. You can not be a couch potato. Do okay in Phys Ed, & find a personal sport that will help u develop strength & coordination. This is important.

Also, read everything u can get ur hands on about airplanes & aviation. The more detailed knowledge u have, the easier it will be for u to learn the things u need to know to pass ur aviation tests when the time comes. Spend time in the library & read all the books & magazines about aviation & related subjects.

If u want to go by way of the military (and that is the most certain way of getting into the flight deck of an airliner), see ur Air Force, Navy, or Marine Corps recruiter. You can go to see them any time, even at age 15. Your recruiter will advise u what college to go to & what to major in to maximize ur chances of getting into military flight training.

When u r about 17, find the nearest flight school & go talk to the instructors. Sign up for an introductory flight, & see what it feels like to fly a real airplane. Do it that way, & avoid computerized flight simulators like FSX. The simulators will teach u bad habits & give u a mistaken impression of what it is like to fly a real airplane. Get some experience in the real thing before u mess with simulators. This is important.

Get ur private pilot certificate as soon as u can. It will get u a head start on whatever additional training u need, either civilian or military.

Good luck, & have fun!

Sounds like someone else has the itch. First of all if u have not done so already take a first flight or scenic flight so u know what flying in a small ac is like.

l will answer ur second question first. Flight simulator WILL help u learn & maintain ur instrument scan for instrument flying as well as familiarity with the gauges themselves but this is only 10% of flying when u first start out. The other 90% of the time u need to be looking outside because 1. That is where the traffic is & 2. You will base every flight maneuver on visual cues/sounds while looking up & outside.

Now the first part of ur question is more difficult both literally & figuratively. The commercial aviation industry is TOUGH right now but there still r some generous salaries. However u can never be certain what will happen with ur job security. If my memory serves me correctly, in just the past month or so United & Delta have cut salaries or downgraded captains to lower costs. Midwest airlines just laid off l believe 1200 employees & grounded their entire MD fleet. The other big factor besides pay is quality of life. If you're interested in having a family make sure ur spouse is somewhat independant & can deal with u being gone a lot of time until u can find a job where u have a good schedule. You can find a corporate job if u know the right people & have the right experience level & they can pay as much or more as an international senior widebody captain but u r at the mercy of ur pager & the company executives schedule. l am in my mid twenties, have been flying since 16 years old & have been considering completely different careers outside flying. If u r pursuing a degree, l would suggest a business or some other general degree so u have something to fall back on in addition to ur flight training & certifications. You might think u know, but u never know what the future holds.

Good luck to you.

If u expect to be highly paid, as a pilot, then u should choose a different career. The days of salaries reaching hundreds of thousands of US dollars r gone, except for the most senior pilots at the best jobs. Companies know that pilots r a dime a dozen these days & for every one of them, there r 1000 more that will do the job for half the pay. Now, if u really love flying, do not care what u get paid & r okay with only being able to afford at most a middle class lifestyle, then go for it.

In the USA, the most lucrative flying jobs r UPS, FedEx & some corporate gigs. The only way to get one of those is if u have good contacts. really good contacts (i.e. u have a close relative or friend working there as a pilot who is senior). It is becoming very common for pilots to get stuck at the regional airline level & spending their entire career there. At that level, it is possible to reach $100K, but only after many many years, & that is if u were lucky enough to pick the right airline.

Flight simulator wo not really help. l mean, it certainly wo not hurt you, but it is not necessary. For now, worry about getting a backup plan & going to college for that (i.e. non aviation related). In the mean time, take flying lessons at ur local airport.

l do not ever try to discourage people from entering this career, but they need to be aware of the fact that they should only do it if they really love flying & do not expect big money.

The biggest mistake u can make is getting a degree in something directly related to Aviation. Go with engineering, business, science, whatever u like. That way, u have something else to fall back on if u leave the industry (either voluntarily or involuntarily). Everyone starts out in this industry thinking '' l will do anything to get paid to fly a plane''. Many wind up with the attitude '' l never want to see another airplane in my life''.
