you will be working with basic equations for time/speed/distance fuel burn etc. navigation and flight planing with known variables, weight and balance computations. All of these problems are solved using an E6-B flight wizz wheel or electronic computer as is now available. Do not let the math part scare you, after a little work with the E6-B you will find it is a snap. Here is an on-line version of the E6-B you can play with.

short of using the E6B for time/distance/ fuel requirement etc. the most complicated math u would do is weight & balance, if u can add, subtract, multiply, divide simple math problems, u will have no difficulty

An example might be. You r flying to a destination that is 500 Nm away , at a TAS (true airspeed) of 120 knots & burn 10 gal/hr how long will it take & how much fuel will u use.

Or. the airplane has a gross weight of 2400 lbs, the empty weight is 1600, fuel capacity of 53 gallons (It weighs approximately 6.02 lbs per gallon at ''standard temperature'' - defined as 15 degrees Celsius )

Pilots weighs 155, how much cargo/passenger weight can u add before being over gross weight?

Very simple math, plus you can use an E6B flight computer and a calculator.

If ur airplane burns 10 gallons of fuel per hour & flies at 120 knots, how far can u travel if ur fuel tanks contain 50 gallons of fuel respecting legal fuel-reserve minimums?

That is a pretty typical ppl-type question.

The answer is, of course 540NM because u r required to have a 30 minute fuel reserve, which in this case is 5 gallons.

The math itself is not difficult, & this is not a test to make sure u can add. This is a practical application of regulations, performance, planning, & general knowledge of airplanes. This is a fairly simple question, & the ones on the PPL written r slightly harder, but u will learn how to manage them all.
