I am interested in being an aircraft mechanic. iv always wanted to be a pilot as a career, l started lessons a while ago and realise its really hard. l still really wanna fly but just not as much of a career.
so, l still wanna work in aviation, another category in that id like to work with is engineering. l realise there are engine mechanics and airframe, the one l have a major interest in would be airframe.
so
could l get a job for an airline, working on airframes doing engineering type work. depending on the pay and work, l might decide to become an aeronautical engineer.
what can you tell me, like the type of work, the people, the money (both for a qualified engineer and a mechanic).and, how do l become one. would there be aprentiships that may even offer a payed uni degree.

the thing about the government being all over you when something goes wrong is one everybody knows about. you just forgot to add the media...

you didnt burst any bubles, l just wana know what im gonna do, il stick to being a pilot for the mean time, im only 16 so theres room for error. l guess, some Airliners pilots may beg to differ.

after a airline has a crash they always look for repacment mechanics, just play the waiting game

Do not bother. The pay & conditions r crap at the bottom which is where u will start - postmen make more - a lot more. You have to buy all ur own tools - thousands of dollars worth. The heavy responsibilty of holding a license is never really rewarded - You r subjected to constant drug & alcohol screening. If u get a DU l the FAA will jerk ur mechanics license if they can,and when something goes really wrong ( an accident) the Federal Government climbs all over mechanics trying to find a reason to put u in jail or at the very least revoke ur license. It is dirty, hard, unrewarding & difficult to make it to the top without good contacts. It is taken me 30 years to get to a position worth having. Until this industry treats it is people better l am advising anyone who will listen to stay the hell away from it. l have two sons & have advised them to stay away. Go & fix computers or elevators - u will make more, get to go home at night & be appreciated as the skilled worker u r without the government sniffing all over you. Sorry to burst bubbles but that is deal as l see it.

Edit - Sorry should have read the whole thing - Australia may be better - but the US certainly is not worth it.
