Im planning to be an airline pilot in the future, im currently 15, and l will start my PPL training soon, l just wanna know will it be hard for me to find a job as a pilot since my religion is muslim, and l wasnt born in United States, the reason im asking this is because someone l know told me that airlines will have complete background check on me before they accept me, and they probably will not accept anyone who is muslim or someone who wasnt born in United States. Its now harder after what happened in 9/11, is it true? when my friend told me that, l was really upset. Thanks in advance EDIT: but l currently live in United States guys, l do not look like a muslim, l look like a european, my religion is only muslim, thats all, and l do not wear any bandages on the head or anything like that, l look like a european

yes and no. if you have an arab name, unfortunately, yes. right now that is the truth of things. if your name is a European sounding name, you probably wo not have that problem. they can not legally ask you your religion or ask about it for hiring you. i'd keep it to myself.

Discrimination against someone based on their religious beliefs is illegal.
Now, having said that, we all know that it is possible to exercise a bias against someone and disguise it as something other than religious discrimenation.
If you want to be a pilot, then be a pilot. A background check is done on ALL pilots and they can not refuse you without cause.

why do you need to work for usa airline company,??? If you think usa wont accept you then try a predominantly muslim country where you will receive no prejudice.

At 15 who knows what will be when you reach your goal ? Many years to wait.

Discrimination might possibly incur. But there is no wrong in trying. Just do not expect that you will have it easily. You might encounter difficulties especially when you are in United States wherein they are still reminiscing the 9/11 attack. Maybe you can study there in US but it is hard for you to practice you profession there. Why not try other countries? Opportunities is not only in US. Just believe in yourself and go for your dreams.

No. 1. How would the airline is know ur religion is Muslim? They would only know If u went bragging about it. 2. Airline is can not discriminate based on race, gender, religion etc etc. 3. Yes, they do a background check- Stay out of illegal trouble. 4. Not being born in the US, wo not keep u from getting a airline job, but they may extend their searches for obvious reasons. 5. Some flight school is now do back ground checks, so ur problems with that will start before the airline's. 6. If u have a ''strange'' name, the airline is may extend their searches.
Do not let this put u in a hole. They wo not totally ignore ur application.
Have a back up plan, as the world today u might get some rude person, who denies ur application because of that very reason.

You might encounter some discrimination, but you wo not be automatically excluded just because you are a Muslim or just because you are not a U.S. citizen. Some jobs officially require that you be a citizen (usually when there are things like security clearances involved). None require that you be a non-Muslim.

You must be a US Citizen l think, so go get that Citizenship!
Best of luck.
By the way they cannot say no to you because you are muslim, that is racist/discrimination!

Any reputable company in the United States can not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, or sex. Being born outside of the U.S. should not be a determining factor either. Good luck on becoming a pilot.

Your friend is wrong. I've flown with airline pilots who were muslim and were born in the middle east. It is illegal for a company to discriminate against someone based on their religion, gender, race, etc.

how would somebody know your religion unless you tell them. in forty years of flying nobody has ever known my religous persuasion. keep it too yourself. likely nobody is going to be enterested anyway.

As previously stated, there should not be a problem as long as u do not have anything questionable in ur past & u have the proper work Visa if u r not a U.S. citizen. A thing to add that u might want to keep in mind - l do not know everything about the Muslim beliefs but some companies require u to wear their uniform & adhere to their appearance standards. In most cases that will prohibit one from wearing the traditional head-wrap & require a clean shaven face. These r the only cases I've heard of creating conflict for someone who was devout Muslim trying to be hired by a company. So just be prepared for that if those r some things that r part of ur beliefs.
