T or F..all of these

2.Each stroke of a four stroke engine requires 180 degrees of crankshaft rotation.

7.The camshaft is hollow to decrese engine weight

12.A GSIO-541 has 541 cubic inch six cylinder lycoming aircraft engine.

13.Radial engines produce the most power per pound than any other reciprocating aircraft engine.

15.The crankcase is the housing tat encloses the various mechanisms surrounding the crankshaft and is the support member for the various components which make up the engine.

2 - TRUE!!!

The engine makes TWO revolutions during the ''four'' strokes. For simplicity is sake, imaging the cylinder vertical instead of horizontal as in an aircraft engine.

First revolution - Downstroke is the intake, sucking air in. Upstroke is the compression, squeezing the air together. That is 360 degrees of total movement.

Spark plug fires

Second revolution - Dowstroke is the power stroke. The igniting of the A/F mixture forces the piston down. Upstroke is the exhaust stroke, pushing the spent mixture out of the cylinder.

You have two complete revolutions of the shaft during that whole operation, which is 720 degrees of rotation. That is 180 degrees per ''stroke.''

Not to confuse you, but it is the CAMSHAFT that rotates 90 degrees per stroke. The camshaft rotates at half the speed of the crankshaft.

7. False: If the camshaft is hollow, it is not to save weight, it is to provide lubrication to the cam lobes. The camshaft is filled with oil. The weight reduction is an additional bonus. The guy above me said that a hollow CRANKshaft would be too weak, which is true. but he obviously did not read ur question well enough, seeing as how u specifically said CAMshaft.

12. True
13. True

15. FALSE!!! The crankcase houses the crankshaft, & is filled with oil. All the components that the above answer mentioned r outside the crankcase. What good would a distributor be if it was immersed in oil?

Each stroke of any piston engine requires 180ยบ crankshaft rotation. 2-stroke engines perform 2 phases of combustion per stroke but the crank still cranks half-way on each stroke.
