Subject: MODEL AIRCRAFT OPERATING STANDARDS

1. PURPOSE. This advisory circular outlines, & encourages voluntary
compliance with, safety standards for model aircraft operators.

2. BACKGROUND. Modelers, generally, r concerned about safety & do exercise
good judgement when flying model aircraft. However, model aircraft can
at times pose a hazard to full-scale aircraft in flight & to personsand
property on the surface. Compliance with the following standards will help
reduce the potential for that hazard & create a good neighbor environment
with affected communities & airspace users.

3 OPERATING STANDARDS.
a. Select an operating site that is of sufficient distance from populated
areas. The selected site should be away from noise sensitive areas such as
parks, schools, hospitals, churches, etc.
b. Do not operate model aircraft in the presence of spectators until the
aircraft is successfully flight tested & proven airworthy.
c. Do not fly model aircraft higher than 400 feet above the surface.
When flying aircraft within 3 miles of an airport, notify the airport operator,
or when an air traffic facility is located at the airport, notify the control
tower, or flight service station.
d. Give right of way to, & avoid flying in the proximity of, full-scale
aircraft. Use observers to help if possible.

DENVER, CO (AP) -- Air space restrictions will be in place over Denver, Colorado during the Democratic National Convention this month, but the scope of those restrictions has irritated & angered a group of people.

The restrictions also impact owners of radio controlled airplanes & helicopters. Restrictions r in effect from August 25th through August 28th, which is when the convention takes place. The restrictions close off the air space for 30-miles surrounding the Pepsi Center in downtown Denver.

l am sure they r doing the same for the Twin Cities during the Repulican Convention.

You guys in the US are lucky. here in the UK you can ONLY fly model aircraft in designated fields, and to be a pilot you MUST have insurance. It is not massively expensive, but it restricts where you can and can not fly to fields normally miles away from home.

l am moving to the US myself later this year, and bringing my hangar with me. l am looking forward to having a little more freedom!
