I am in 9th grade and l wanna be a pilot but with this economy and all these gas issues and global warming problems will being a pilot still be a good idea ?

For pay? No, not a good idea.

Main Line airlines r cutting back capacity.

The smaller struggling airlines do not pay a decent wage. Or they go bankrupt more often than the big ones. Bus drivers can make more.

It is very expensive to get flight training & that will put u into debt.
Even the military is going more & more to remotely piloted aircraft.

If u want to fly, get a REAL job. One that pays well like a Doctor or a Lawyer, or a Congressman. Make flying ur hobby to waste an obscene salary on. You can not make a decent living at it any more.

A pilot is a fantastic job. But the gas issues r going to be problem as u see an aircraft relies on it engines, these engines use gas to produce thrust, as when the gases r ignited they r forced out the back of the engine thought the incoming airflow, the exhaust produced is what gives it it is thrust.

Aircraft jet engines can not simply be switched for Biofules like a diesel becuase they need the heat produced by the expanding gases, bu Biofules can not. l do not know what going to happen with gas & global warming, but if we do not stop or slow global warming, well u wo not have to worry about the has problem.

l am gonna have to say no. When l started training, a Cessna 150 went for 30 bucks per hour. Try to find that now.

A rule of thumb is do not take out more debt than you can pay for on your first year salary. The first year salary for a regional airline pilot is 20 grand. Flight training costs 3 times that.

Probably not. The future is impossible to predict but consider how many airlines have already gone out of business & how the ones that r left r reducing their schedules & furloughing pilots by the thousands. Add to that that only captains at major airlines make the really big bucks, first officers & captains at smaller airlines do not make huge salaries. It would be hard to justify risking the amount of money it would take to get the hours & ratings u need out of ur own pocket.

l will add to what Tom said that when l started flying in 1964 l was paying $7.00 per hour for a 150 but actually got most of my time on a J-3 & a Champ at $3.75 per hour, wet.
