l know this is kind of hard to answer because there are probably more pilots rated to fly 747s than flights but any statistics would be appreciated.

There are at least 800 747 is still actively flying around the world. Assuming three sets of crew for each one, that would give you about 4,800 pilots. The number is most likely higher due to pilots rated in the 747 who do not currently fly it. At a rough guess l would say somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000 active pilots that are rated to fly 747s.

l think there r more like 10 crews available for each airplane. (They fly long routes, & r in the air almost constantly.)

Assuming the nearly constant in the air scenario (which I've witnessed) there r 720 hours in a month, & the maximum a crew can fly is 90 hours -- which would be a lot of hours for this kind of aircraft u would need 8 crews for that much air time. so my guess is 10 per aircraft. multiply that by the 800 airplanes available & the two pilots per plane, & it would be something like 16,000 pilots.
